Dear Cahill colleague,
I apologize if you're getting this e-mail multiple times because of mailing list superpositions. If you don't know me, I'm a JPL scientist who works on gravitational waves, LISA, and LIGO, and who spends quite a bit of time in Cahill.
If you don't have plans for this Friday already, and if you haven't seen the premiere at Caltech in Oct 2008, I would like to invite you to Friday's University of Southern California performance of "Einstein's Cosmic Messengers," the multimedia show about gravitational waves that I produced with composer-musician Andrea Centazzo. Andrea plays contemporary percussions and sampled sounds in front of synchronized projected astronomical and astrophysical animations and images. You can see a demo at www.andreacentazzo.com/ecm, and get an idea of Andrea's live playing at http://www.kennedy-center.org/explorer/videos/?id=M4402.
The performance will be followed by a short panel discussion about the making of the show and about gravitational waves, featuring Centazzo, USC/Caltech cosmologist Elena Pierpaoli, myself, and moderated by USC journalism professor KC Cole. The event will take place at 8pm, on Fri Oct 22, in USC's Bovard Auditorium (see http://www.usc.edu/student-affairs/bovardauditorium/directions.php). Admission is free.
If you RSVP to me by tomorrow night, I will be able to put you on the VIP list for the best seats in the house. But come even if you decide at the last minute (Bovard will accommodate all).
Hope to see you there,
Michele
